Term dates are set well in advance and agreed by Governors. We try to follow the dates set by Croydon Council for all Croydon schools, but we may have a slight variation as we take into consideration other local schools that siblings may attend (eg Surrey schools and Sutton schools).
Schools choose four or five INSET (staff training) days and these are shown on our tables in yellow. On these days, pupils do not attend school. Pupils have to attend on 190 days in an academic year.
Parents should not take their children out of school for anything other than illness of the child. There are other circumstances where an absence would be authorised by the head teacher, such as an external exam, visiting a secondary school, or a family death. Please do not use a holiday form for these occasions. Please write to the head teacher separately.
Parents should not take children away from school for a holiday. However, if a parent is only entitled to annual leave from his/her work at certain times of the year, the head teacher may currently authorise up to two weeks holiday in an academic year. A holiday form must be submitted to the head teacher prior to the holiday to request permission. Governors have asked the head teacher not to authorise holiday for Year 6 pupils, to encourage parents to avoid taking their child out of school, and not to authorise individual days off where they do not coincide with a family's annual holiday.
